Ok its official. I will be hosting the Seawind SPLASH-IN which will be held in Maryland the weekend of Oct 1-3, 2010.

Location: Bay Bridge Airport (w29) www.airnav.com/airport/W29 and Breezecroft (05MD) www.airnav.com/airport/05MD. Nearest major airports BWI or DCA. PHL is OK as well.

Tentative Schedule:

FRIDAY:

Arrival and preliminary meeting friday afternoon at Baybridge. If there is interest, friday morning could start with a charter fishing trip on the bay minutes from Bay bridge airport. Plan casual dinner in annapolis or kent island (on the bay). Then spend the nite on Kent Island, or head up to Chestertown,MD.

Saturday:

Meet at Baybridge and either drive (45 min) or fly (15) min up to Breezecroft 05MD, near Chestertown,MD. Or land on water at Seaplane base Breezecroft 23MD. Hanger session there about 10 am. with grill for lunch. Flying and kicking tires, then break for afternoon/evening poolside barbecue/picnic. Other seaplane pilots from Chespapeake Seaplane Pilots Association may arrive to seaplane base at Breezecroft (23MD) and join us for social hours.

Sunday:

Kick tires in the AM, go for a boat ride, tour chestertown or maybe fly a few minutes up to MD1 to see what is being restored at Massey Aerodrome (masseyaero.org).

Baybridge is 2900 by 60 foot paved with clear approaches. Breezecroft 2700 ft turf. Pilots not comfortable with 2700 ft, rolling turf runways should not plan on landing at Breezecroft. This is my home, so pilots planning on landing there will be asked to sign a liability waiver. 100 LL available if absolutely needed. Landing in the water is up to you. Ramp only works at high tide, so tying up on small beach or to floating dock may be required. In the event of inclement weather we will go for it anyway, as we can still meet in the hanger and have social events indoors. There are hundreds of miles of protected coastal waters for seaplane operations within minutes of these two airports. Both are outside the Washington ADIZ so normal vfr operations are no problem. Just don't stray into the ADIZ at DC or camp david on the way in. Also there is an small MOA just west of breezecroft, so call Martin Tower (KMTN) if you will be cutting through from the west or just duck under it.

Websites www.Chestertown.com and www.kentisland.cc also www.visitannapolis.org are good for some local information. I will see if special rates can be obtained at motels in Kent island for friday and Chestertown for saturday. The more the merrier so do not pass this one up. The bayside coast of Maryland in the fall is absolutely beautiful.

A head count will be needed eventually so please respond below.

It will start at Dayton Ohio next year. Mike is a wonderful Seawind Pilot and has realy been putting his to use. 400 hrs. or more in avery short time. Great Job Mike R

Thanks for sponsoring the event. Sharon and I plan to attend unless the weather stops us. We met you when we attended the spash-ins in Duluth. We will be flying our Cherokee Six and can go IFR. I reserved a room at the best western yesterday. The rate I got was $93.00 weekdays and $170.00 for weekends with AAA.

I checked the Hilton one room left at 239.00.

Holiday Inn is sold out.

Sleep Inn rates 70.00 to 90.00 weekdays and 117.00 weekends. They have lots of rooms. We may be able to get a group rate if enough people are interested.

I wanted to update the information on the flyin with a more accurate schedule

thursday nite: if you are here call me 410 708 2527 and may go out for food or drinks

Friday: early arrivals meet at Bay Bridge Airport. Plan for lunch at noon at Kentmoor marina and restaurant. There is a short airstrip there. One of the few places you can arrive by boat or airplane for a meal.

Friday nite. Hit the hot spots on Kent island or even annapolis.

Saturday: Meet at Bay bridge by 10 am or so. We have the offer of a hanger this year complements of Chesapeake Sport Pilots. Hanger session. Then grill right there.

Saturday afternoon. Hang out/fly/Take a bunch of seawinds up the chester river. Plan on Arrival at Breezecroft and my home by plane/boat / automobile .. whatever.

Cocktails plus pigroast beginning around 5:30.

Sunday: If there is time, a quick flight over to MD1(Massey Aerodrome) to see the restorations under way there.

Weather looks to be clearing. With 4 inches of rain today my runway might still be a little wet but should dry some by saturday. Don't try it till I've checked it out and I will tell you at bay bridge if it's ok. Of Course the water landing area is always wet. I have a floating dock to tie up to now and have cleared the ramp so it is semi-usable.

Add one more guest to the list! .. Dick Silva is going to attend with all up to date info on certified Seawind project... should be great info!!! might be 8 Seawinds?!!

To all of you seawinders.. Thanks for coming. Any event is only as good as those who participate and we had great people which made this a huge success. Nice weather helped too as my runway dried out in time for visits from Two seawinds in addition to my own. All told, 8 seawinds, Lohr, Silva, Deramel, Lynch,Saccio,Walljasper, Witkowski, Reibling. The hanger session included a great update by Dick Silva on good things to come with certified plane and what may be available to us builders then. Fascinating stuff by Russ Kotalek on the rotary mazda engine he is installing, informative update on the Website by Mike, input from Keith on the nosewheel axle available from Matco. Informative session from Jack Ardoyno with some ideas on how to deseminate useful information on technical problems and issues. Look to the website for that. My personal highlight was the flight of 3 seawinds cruising up the Chester River,then down the Sassafrass along the chespeake bay, skimming just above the water on a beatiful fall day. Check the video from Guilliame to see what that was like. Thanks to all for coming! Those who missed, see you at the next one.

What a great event! 8 airplanes for a record.

I've been on the road since leaving Bay Bridge on Sunday, so haven't had a chance to comment.

Fred, we all owe you big time for all the effort and expense on your part to make this a great Splashin. Thanks for everything, including your wonderful hospitality. It was also fun to catch up with DeSales and discover that she went flying in the Seawind and may? go again soon.

Thanks also to Guillaume for the excellent photography and editing.

I intend to post also in General Discussion concerns about the "Big Tail" and a new panel I would like to get started regarding the resolution of problems many of us have experienced in our flying.

Fred ---I want thank you and your wonderful wife for having the Seawinders again this year. I thoughly enjoyed seeing and visiting with everyone. I had weather problems on the way home in n/w Virginia and a glitch with the alternator but with the two battery situation I flew N80CC on home. No problem! Will write about it later.
